Description
A grey work jacket made with 100% wool Kemp melton from Katori, Japan. Kemp is a short, coarse hair that grows among the wool fibres, and its hollow core resists dye. When the cloth is dyed, the kemp stays light, leaving white fibres scattered irregularly across the surface, the defining character of kemp melton. Because they fall differently wherever the fibres lie rather than in a set pattern, each jacket carries a slightly different face within the same grey. Melton is wool cloth fulled with water, heat and friction until the weave is tightly compacted, making it wind-resistant, warm and slow to lose its shape. The coarse feel of the kemp adds to this, giving the cloth a sturdy, rugged workwear texture. The collar is finished in smooth genuine goatskin, bringing rough wool and supple leather together in one garment. The generous body has a chest pocket and two lower pockets, with 3 oz padding so the jacket can be worn on its own in winter. Pair it with denim to bring out its workwear character, or with wool trousers to explore the contrast between materials.
